Sligo’s U-14 side also faces a replay with Galwegians after the sides drew 10 all in the Connacht Cup quarter final at Hamilton Park on Saturday last.
The home team had slightly the better of matters in the first half, and they led by 5-3 at the break. However, a converted Galwegian try midway through the second half put them 10-5 ahead. This score seemed to rouse Sligo as they laid siege to the Galwegians’ line. With a minute remaining, centre Keith McGoldrick scored the vital try to level the scoring, and give his side the draw they so richly deserved.
An injury to centre, John Healy after 10 minutes disrupted Sligo, so coach,Michael O’Hehir, will be hoping he is fully recovered for the replay. Sligo’s line-out was strong, with Keelan O’Hehir doing some excellent work. In the pack, prop forward, Gerard Keaney impressed with some surging runs while in the backline, McGoldrick and substitute, Robbie Keegan impressed.
