Claremorris U18s 35 Sligo U18s 5
The Girls’ U18s league kicked off last Saturday, with an away match against Claremorris Colts. Conditions were perfect, but ball handling proved tricky on the Colts’ pitch. The Sligo team battled valiantly against a strong local side.
This was the girls’ first game in 18 months and the teams went try for try for the first 20 minutes. Sligo’s Emma Cox crossing the whitewash to open the scoring for the visitors and to cancel out the Colts’ opener. As the half concluded, the Colts out half made a super break to edge the home team in front at the interval.
The second half opened brightly for Sligo with some great open rugby played until a break by the Colts secured their third try. Despite some great defence during the last 10 minutes, the Colts managed two further tries to run out winners.
The game was much needed by Sligo and will sharpen both skills and structure for the next outing.
