U18’s are BACK!!!

Sligo 43 :: Monivea 3

It was an impressive first league outing for Sligo u18s on Sunday last at Hamilton Park Strandhill. The scoreline of 45 points to 3 against Monivea was just reward for a Sligo team who played some very creative rugby throughout. There were seven trys scored in all, six scored by a back line which was supplied with near perfect ball from a dominating Sligo pack.

Playing into a stiff breeze in the first half the Sligo pack totally dominated their opposites. They were solid in the set pieces. Lifters worked well the and second row ruled the lineout. Not only securing their own but also several of Monivea’s throws. However it was at the breakdown where Sligo’s dominance was most noticable, as a pack they continually drove Monivea back, turning Monivea ball over time after time. Their defence was equally impressive with solid tackling around the fringes they created an impenetrable wall.

With a perfect platform provided by the Sligo pack, the Sligo back line shone. The halfbacks controlled the game well and played cleverly with the wind at their backs. And the centres and outside backs carved off large tracks of land ever time they were released.

Good team performance in both attack and defence were 1 to 15 dominated their opposites.

Well done all; Thomas G (try), Thomas S, Craig, Micheal, Rory (Capt.) (try), Colin (try), Brendan, Micheal, Tadgh, Luke, (1st game 1st try) Adam, Keith (try), Peter, Dee, Aaron L (bring ice next time, and that’s not for your eye) Aaron S (2 tries), Niall (great kicking) and the Girls.
