U14s Power To Creggs Victory

With the festive period most youth sides were enjoying a well deserved break, with very few games played during the Christmas break. Only Sligo U14s were in action when they took on Creggs at Hamilton Park on 28/12. Sligo went into the game on top of the U-14 north division and would be looking to stay there with victory over a physical Creggs side. The match was played in perfect conditions in Strandhill and both sides started brightly looking to attack. The excellent centre partnership of Mark Leydon and Patrick McLoin centre caused havoc in the Creggs defence from the outset with both players adding early scores with a try each. Captain Fabian Zawada led from the front with his scrummaging and defence superb. There were also major contributions from the other front row players Aaron Donnellan, Killian Filan, Dylan Feeney while the superb Matt Davey added two tries. In the second row Niall O’Rourke and Jamie McGovern had great games with O’Rourke also bagging two tries. Sligo’s dominant back row of Andrew Nairn, Leigh Dunne and James O’Hehir were prominent throughout with O’Hehir and Nairn both getting their name on the score sheet. Cian Mulligan and Eddie Weaver interchanged well at scrum-half, both providing superb distribution to Sligo’s potent backline. Out half Conor Keirns had a good game linking play well with some crisp passing. Wingers Darragh Burke and Eoin Kilroy-Talbot did everything asked of them and Kilroy-Talbot provided the standout moment of the game with a brilliant try running the length of the pitch to score under the posts. Unfortunately Burke had to be replaced due a back injury to be replaced by the useful Tadgh Cadden. Fullback Sean Finnigan is starting to star at full back with his tackling and lines of running to the fore. Sligo were superb throughout, and some fantastic rugby saw them run out winners by 54-5. Sligo remain top of the North Division and with performances like this will certainly be right in the hunt for honours as the season progresses.
