Sligo’s 2nd XV were edged out on a 10-7 score-line by Castlebar under lights at Castlebar on Saturday evening in the Connacht Junior 2 league.
David Kilcoyne’s young side were short some key players because of the current spate of injuries in the club, but they gave a spirited performance. Niall Quinn scored Sligo’s try, which was converted by Frankie Feeney. For Sligo,Terence O’Connor was outstanding at open side, while Dara Cox, Aoran Tansey and David Kilcoyne were a solid front row. In the back-line, Frankie Feeney, Brian Hynes and James Coulter impressed. Well done also to team managers, Michael Storey, Finian O’Driscoll and Brendan Leahy.
