Sligo u-12s v Ballina, Match 2

Sligo Blacks 6 :: Ballina Blues 3

After a the physical encounter of the Reds V Greens the Sligo Blacks and Ballina Blues served up a contrasting treat of open rugby. Both teams showed a high commitment to running rugby with the ball being spread from side to side with some accurate passing and great running lines. One prominent feature of the Sligo play was their ability to off load in the tackle and keep the ball alive. This payed dividends early on when Sligo raced into a 3 trys to 1 lead. Playing in only his second game for Sligo Conor Mc Goldrick showed his great finishing ability to get his name on the score sheet twice before half time. Super running by Oisin Cogan, Darran Kilcawley, Steven Knowles and good clearance kicking by Evan Barry ensured Sligo remained two scores ahead at half time. Sligo started the second half as they finished the first with strong running and great passing. A feature of this was the much improved distribution of scrum half Darren Harte who has obviously been working hard on his passing skills. In a day for new players Darragh Byrne crossed the opposition line in the second half following good work in the forwards by Chris Kane and Ben Rooney and by the returning Killian Kelly in the backline. Ballina came back into the game with two tries but any hope of a comeback was dashed by two fine Sligo scores late in the second half.
