Sligo travel to Galway this Sunday, December 7th, seeking to immediately return to winning ways against OLBC. Sligo’s disappointing scoreless draw in Westport is the only blemish on their immaculate record so far this season, and with this being their last encounter before the Christmas break, will want to provide a victory that may prove crucial to their title aspirations. With Monivea’s one point victory over Ballina this weekend, and Corinthians defeating local rivals Galwegians, it now looks a three-horse title race. Sligo are top by five points but their two rivals both have a game in hand, and no slip-ups can be afforded before the big three all clash after Christmas. Sligo dominated in Westport, but could not provide the moment of creativity needed to win the game, and coach Joe Walsh will need to ensure that his side put that disappointment behind them and produce a big performance against an always competitive OLBC side. The Galway side are in danger of being dragged into a relegation dogfight after their weekend loss at home to fellow strugglers Buccanneers and will be targetting a major shock here. They boast JL1’s leading tryscorer in centre Dave Prior, and he may prove key if they are going to be capable of upsetting Sligo. Sligo will be looking for another big performance from their pack, where backrowers Joe Sweeney and Peter Mullan have been immense in recent weeks. Improvement will be needed from a backline that while looking solid in defense looked devoid of ideas at times in Westport, and this is something that Sligo are sure to have worked on in training. Defeat is simply not an option for this Sligo side, and hopefully they will provide a comperhensive victory that will restore confidence before the massive games after Christmas. Kick off is 2.30pm, and club members are urged to travel and support the team.
