Easter weekend saw Sligo Rugby Club U12’s in action European invitational blitz hosted by Malahide RFC.
Sligo were proud to be the sole Connacht representatives and fielded two teams over both days of the event.
The Sligo boys had the opportunity to test themselves against very strong opposition from professional clubs in Europe such as Clermont Auvergne of France and San Dona of Northern Italy. They also came up against Glasgow based West of Scotland as well as Leinster Club Barnhall and host club Malahide.
The Sligo teams performed proudly in their games with the overseas teams despite their considerable physical advantage with one of the Sligo teams giving the French and Italians their best contests of the weekend. Against their counterparts in Leinster, Sligo were on top in most of their games.
The Michael Campbell Trophy was awarded to the winners Clermont Auvergne based on points awarded for embodiment of the ethos of mini rugby, for outstanding skill, positive communication, team spirit, respect for all in involved as well as tries scored.
