Sligo’s 2nd XV, boosted by their recent impressive friendly victories over Carrick-on-Shannon and Ballina, commence competitive action on Sunday next, when they travel to Galway to play Corinthians. With a full squad, Sligo are capable of making a major impact in this league. The selectors, Michael Storey, Finian O’Driscoll and Declan Lynch have tried out a number of different formations in their games to date, and will certainly field a strong side.
Young players, who are products of the club’s under-age system, such as Steven Connolly, David Kilcoyne, Ross O’Boyle, Ciaran Stafford, Aaron Tansey, Ted Mulvanney and Brian Hynes will back-bone the side. Relative newcomers to the game, such as Owen McDermott, the Kiely brothers from Skreen, Dermot and Declan, Alan and Michael Brennan, and John Bellew will have much to contribute, while players with senior team experience, including these returning from injury, should ensure that Sligo will field a formidable side. The game kicks off at 2.30 pm, and the team bus will leave Sligo Garda Station at 11 am for Corinthian Park.
