It’s that time of the year again as the 2008-2009 rugby season kicks off. This is an early start but with the first league game in mid September its important for the squad to get some time on the field together. A lot of work has gone in already both in terms of strengthening the squad and in terms of early season training.
Coach Joe Walsh says he is in-general happy with the response of the players in terms of effort put in on the training park and general commitment. Next Saturday Sligo will travel to Enniskllen for what will be a match cum training session. The coach says it will be good to see them finally working with the ball and getting used of the hits and the intensity, something that no training session can replace.
This will be an ideal opportunity for some new recruits to stake a claim and it is envisaged that there will be serious competition for starting spots come League time. There are several such friendlies to come between now and the official start to the league and these games will give the coach and management a better idea of their strongest starting 15.
