Quiet Week-end In Prospect For 1st's

With the Connacht Junior 1 League not resuming until Sunday week, January 20th, the upcoming week-end will be quiet for the 1st team squad.

Following an unfortunate spate of injuries to key players, and a flu outbreak, coach, Joe Walsh and manager, Brendan Leahy, will be happy with the extra week to assist in the recuperation of a number of players for the crucial league game with OLBC in Hamilton Park, when league action re-commences. Wing forward, Joe Sweeney, who fractured his thumb in the St. Stephen’s Day game will definitely be an absentee for that game, as will utility forward, Andrew Williams, who has knee ligament problems, while Roger Burrows, will be in his native New Zealand to visit his family. However, with Thomas Darcel, Julian Ripon, Billy Leahy and Gary Boland again available for selection behind the scrum, and with Ronan Gillespie and Peter Mullan returning to the pack, competition for places will be keen, especially following the vintage performances of so many of the promoted players in the famous victory over Coleraine.
