Former Sligo RFC under-age star, Paul Gillespie, who currently is a key player with Dublin University [Trinity College] in the A.I.L., recently had the honour of playing for the Micky Steele-Bodger XV against Cambridge University in the annual pre-colours ‘warm up’ game. This was the 60th staging of the tie, which is a red letter date in the Cambridge fixture list.
Cambridge play Oxford University in Twickenham on December 6th in the 126th annual colours game between the sides. Since 1947, the legendary Steele-Bodger, a Cambridge graduate and a former England International, selects a special invitation side to provide fitting opposition to Cambridge a couple of weeks before the big colours game. This year, former Irish International, Kevin Maggs captained the side, which included Paul Gillespie at full-back, and two other Dublin University players. Steele-Bodger is also President of the Barbarians, who defeated South Africa in Twickenham on Saturday last.
It was a great honour for Paul to earn selection in such a prestigious game, and the unassuming Kevinsfort man is wished well in his future career from the President and everyone in the club.
