Former Sligo Underage Players In Big Time

Former Sligo Youth player, Paul Gillespie, who has just completed a very impressive season with Dublin University in the AIL, has been selected at full-back on the Irish Universities team which plays the French Universities at Lyons on Saturday next. Paul won a Connacht Schools’ Senior Cup medal with Sligo Grammar School, is former Connacht U-20 player, and looks destined for further honours in the future.

Meanwhile, another former Sligo Youth star, Niall O’Hara, captained Buccaneers on Saturday last to victory in Division 2 of the AIL, and they will return to Division 1 for next season.

On Saturday next, UL-Bohemians play Lansdowne in the final of the all-Ireland U-20 Cup. The captain of the UL-Bohs team is Sean Henry, a native of Curry, who commenced his rugby career under Jean McConnell in Banada Abbey, and who won an all-Ireland Youths U-18 League medal with Sligo in 2005. Also on the UL-Bohs side are two other former Sligo Youth stars, scrum-half, Cathal Sheridan, a native of Breeogue, and full-back, Ross Butler from Strandhill Road.

The club President congratulates Paul and Niall on their notable achievements, and wishes Sean, Cathal and Ross the best of luck in the final on Saturday.
