Summerhill College’s senior team gave an extremely impressive display in Hamilton Park when they defeated Garbally College, Ballinasloe by 22-12 in a friendly fixture on Tuesday last. This performance certainly augurs well for their cup prospects in the new year. The home side had to line out without the injured Conor Brady, Gary Cawley and Thomas Stenson, but they were in control from the outset. Their strong pack, where Daniel Bergin, Michael McMorrow and Peter Walpole starred, provided a plentiful supply of ball for the backs. Half backs, Donal Brady and Niall Kenneally varied their game very well, and gave a fine service to their outside backs. Centre, Rory Kerins and Brendan Glynn caused the losers endless problems. However, the team’s hero was 16 year old full-back, Aaron Spring, who ran some super lines from full-back, and is certain to be a major strike force for his team in the cup. He scored a tremendous try after a 50 metre run, where he demonstrated pace, power and deft footwork.
