On my behalf, and on behalf of Sligo Rugby Club, I would like to extend my best wishes to all club members, players, volunteers and supporters for the season 2020/21. This season, more than any other, presents a huge challenge to our club. I would like to express my thanks to all for their dedication and commitment.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank John Garvey. John has taken on the important role of COVID-19 Club Compliance Officer. He will ensure that all teams at all levels in the club will adhere to the Return to Rugby guidelines as set down by the IRFU. We as a club aim to create as safe an environment within rugby for the well being of all who participate.
Our new rugby membership portal, RugbyConnect, was launched in August. RugbyConnect is the sole platform for all aspects of game and competition management. It features a wide range of functions to help volunteers with areas such as safeguarding and club membership. I wish Gavin Laws and his team ever success in the implementation of the new system.
As with other seasons the need for additional fund raising remains vital for the continued successful operation of our club. Due to Government restrictions the task is proving more difficult than in previous seasons. For instance, it has not been possible for our traditional Sligo RFC Teenage Discos to take place. These discos would normally be a very important part of the funding for the club.
With this in mind, Sligo Rugby Club will shortly launch our annual Your Club Your Country draw. This season our draw will be an online event and we ask as a club for your continued support in this popular draw.
A new club initiative is also being launched. Sligo RFC €2Lotto is coming your way. We seek support from friends, colleagues and the wider community in what promises to be an exciting addition to our club calendar.
For all involved rugby remains a passion on and off the pitch. Respect, discipline and commitment are what hold all those involved together.
I wish all members, volunteers, players and supporters every success and continued enjoyment for the season 2020/21.
Niall J. Gray
President Sligo R.F.C.
