Busy Week-End In Prospect

With the weather forecast predicting improved conditions, the Grounds Sub-Committee are optimistic that Hamilton Park will be in good condition for the week-end’s fixtures. The Connacht Cup U-14 semi-final between Sligo and Westport will take place in Hamilton Park on this Saturday at 3pm 12pm.

This is certain to be a very competitive game. Sligo won the U-13 Cup last season, and following an unbeaten U-14 league run this season in the northern section, they slipped up in the league semi-final against Buccaneers.

However, their cup defeat of Galwegians was very impressive, and they will be very determined to qualify for the final.

At the time of going to press, the arrangements for the refixture of the U-13 Connacht Cup semi-final between Sligo and Buccaneers had not been decided on by the Connacht Branch. Sligo are hopeful that this game will also be in Hamilton Park, but the liklihood is that it will be at a neutral venue. It is certain that the game will go ahead at the week-end, and parents and supporters should check the club’s website for details of this fixture.

At Hamilton Park on Sunday next [Kick-Off 3 p.m.], Sligo’s 2nd team play Tuam in the first round of the Ard na Cregg Cup. Sligo will field a strong side, and on home ground will be more than hopeful of victory. Having used a big squad of players in the league, the team management of Michael Storey, Des Butler, Declan Lynch and Finian O’Driscoll, will select from quite a large panel, with a good balance of youth and experience. As many supporters as possible are urged to get behind the team on Sunday. The Sligo ‘man of the match’ will be the recipient of an award after the game. The award is very generously donated by the sponsors of senior rugby in the club, Martin Reilly Motors.
