Although he is scheduled to have probably the busiest seven days of his illustrious career in the week preceding the club’s Annual Dinner, special guest, Anthony Foley, is looking forward to the AIB sponsored event, which will be held in the Sligo Park Hotel on Sunday May 4th. On the previous Sunday [April 27th], Anthony will be in action for Munster in the Ricoh Stadium, Coventry, against Saracans in the Heineken Cup Semi-Final. On the Tuesday prior to the function [April 29th], he will play for Munster against Ulster in Ravenhill, while on the day before the dinner he will be in Wales playing against Llanelli, also in the Magner’s League, after which he will travel to Sligo.
By Sunday May 4th, it is probable that Anthony will have been capped 201 times for Munster, a record which is unlikely to be ever emulated. He is the holder of 62 International caps, and most observors of the game would consider that his caps haul would have been considerably more, if he had not been the victim of some bizarre selectorial decisions, especially during the Brian Ashton era, when he really was at his peak. He is a tremendous ambassador for the game, and a great role model for all our young players.
Ticket sales have gone very well, and numbers are being finalised this Thursday, so all tickets should be purchased by then. Tickets sales should be confirmed to any of the Organising Sub-Committee, of Billy Leahy, Mary O’Hehir, Clare Storey, Orla Gilligan or Niall Draper, or to the club President, Tom Gilligan.
A memorable evening is assured, and proceedings will get underway with a drinks reception at 7.30 pm.
