Sligo have been drawn at home against Coleraine in the opening round of the A.I.B. Junior Cup, and the game is fixed for January 5th. [kick-off 2.30 pm]. It is a particularly difficult draw for Sligo, as Coleraine reached the final of the competition last season, won the Ulster league, and were just pipped in the round robins for qualification into the AIL. However, Sligo will be greatly encouraged by the home draw, and this may well be the incentive they require to make a major impact in the competition.
The cup is contested by 16 teams [4 from each province], with the top four team in each of last season’s provincial leagues qualiying. Connacht is represented by Sligo, Monivea, Westport and Castlebar. Monivea have an away tie with Tullamore, while the luck of the draw paired Westport and their near neighbours, Castlebar.
