2nd Team's Impressive Sportsgrounds Victory

OLBC 2nd XV 7 :: Sligo 2nd XV 15

Sligo’s 2nd team took to the road again on Sunday after last week’s disappointing no show by Monivea in Hamilton Park, as they made the long journey to the Galway Sportsgrounds to play OLBC. Despite a long list of unavailable players, which resulted in promotions to the 1st team on Saturday, Sligo still had a squad of 21 players on duty.

Sligo led by 10-0 at the interval, courtesy of tries by scrum-half, Niall Canning and winger, Nick Reynolds. OLBC got a converted try in the second half, but a try from substitute, Michael Conlon, following good work from another replacement, Dave Delahunty, sealed the issue for Sligo. This was another encouraging performance from Sligo, and the team is hitting top form as the cup campaign is about to commence. There was a ‘man of the match’ performance from Simon Coyle at wing forward, while others to impress in the pack were Simon Coulter, Aaron Tansey, Ross O’Boyle and Tony Delahunty.

In the backs, half backs, Niall Canning and Ted Mulvanney were impressive, while Nick Reynolds and Clive Morris were always dangerous. A feature of the squad on Sunday was the presence of three sets of brothers, the Coulters, the Kielys and the Delahuntys. Well done to the entire squad and to the management triumvirate of Michael Storey, Des Butler and Declan Lynch for all their work with the team.
