On Sunday next, Sligo’s 1st team travel to Glenina to play Galwegians in Round 2 of the Connacht Junior 1 League.
This is sure to be a testing assignment for Sligo, as the Galway side trounced Ballina, away, on Sunday last. Sligo will be happy that Galwegians will have played in the AIL Division 1 on Saturday, so they will not be able to call on any of the club’s front line players. Nevertheless, with their 2nd. squad players aiming to break into their senior side, Galwegians are sure to field a committed and formidable team, and Sligo will certainly tread warily. The game has a 3 pm kick-off. At the time of going to press, Sligo have injury concerns about captain, Jamie Livingstone and winger, Julian Rippon, as well as Kakaber Machitidze who missed last week’s game, winger, Philip Henry, who is nursing a fractured finger, and Trevor Sweeney who is just returning to action after a long term injury.
