Calling all Senior and U19 Players!

All senior players and U19 players are invited to a meeting with the coaches and managers for next season. The meeting will take place in the club next Monday 29th June at 8pm.

This will be an opportunity for players to be introduced to the new coaches and managers and to discuss plans for the coming season. With pre season training due to start in July the coaches will lay out their timetables and general plans for the season. All players from U19 to senior (1sts and 2nds) are welcome and especially any new players.

Moss Keane Golf Challenge

We were all very upset to hear earlier this year that the great indestructible Kerry man, Moss Keane, had been hit with cancer; but of course in his inimitable style, he is fighting and remains immensely cheerful and in great form.

Killester Travel are holding a golf day to celebrate Moss’s career and also to raise some much needed money for the IRFU Charitable Trust and Stuart Mangan Appeal – both charities looking after seriously injured players. We know it is a tough year and because of that we have tailored the competition in a particular way.

Charity Table Quiz A Huge Success

The President of Sligo RFC, Brendan Leahy, and the Chairman of the organising Sub-Committee, Tom Gilligan, on behalf of the Sub-Committee, wish to thank those who supported the table quiz in aid of the Stuart Mangan Trust, held on Tuesday evening last in the Glasshouse Hotel. They also wish to thank all who made financial contributions, and are extremely grateful to the business community for very generously donating prizes for the raffle held on that evening.

Stuart Mangan Appeal

Stuart Mangan is a 25 year old rugby player from Cork who sustained a very serious spinal injury during a game for his club in the UK on April 5th, 2008. He has been left paralysed and will require 24 hour medical care for the rest of his life. You may have seen or heard Keith Wood’s or Paul O’Connell’s radio and television appeals for support for the fund.

Meeting Stuart has inspired me to champion Night Around Tables – a global fundraiser for the Stuart Mangan Appeal. The event will involve people from Sydney to Sligo, New York to Newcastle, Cape Town to Cork, hosting a meal with friends at home for Stuart on one special night across the world – Keith Wood

You can read more about this and other ways to help – check out Stuart’s appeal at www.stuartmangan.org.

In support of the efforts of those in Munster Rugby, Irish and English Rugby and indeed Rugby worldwide to raise funds for Stuart Mangan, the members of Sligo Rugby Club have arranged a table quiz to be held in The Glasshouse Hotel on Tuesday May 26th 2009 at 8pm. The cost of a table is €40. All are welcome – please come along, bring some friends and support the appeal!

IRFU Tag Rugby Launch

Launch night is April 18th 2009 in the Rugby Club for tag rugby. We hope to have 4 to 6 teams from last year’s league play a demonstration game to show people how the game is played. We plan to start the games at 5.30pm. Food will be provided in the club house after the games. There will be a DJ there to get the fun started!

The first night of tag will be on May 21st. We will be having a Karaoke competition after the games on this night and we hope to have food provided as well.

The second entertainment night of tag is planned for June 11th. We have decided to have a Table Quiz and Pizza Night for this evening.

The last entertainment night of tag is the final night on July 16th. For this night we are having a Bring Your Own Barbeque (BYO BBQ). You can bring your own BBQ set and cook your own food if you like. We are also thinking about setting up a camp area for people that want to camp on the grounds (the camping is to be confirmed). We will be having Fancy Dress on this night as well as an Award Ceremony.

On the other nights of tag we will be asking teams, if they wish, to bring their own music with them. They can bring a CD with the music they like and we will play it in the clubhouse. We are also planning on having a pizza delivery service to the clubhouse so people can order food if they wish. People can also vote for the Award Ceremony which takes place on the final night.

If people want more information they can email: sligotag@gmail.com or phone 085 109 4210. It is possible to register now and pay later on www.irishrugby.ie/tag.
