Tag Rugby – 1 week to go!

Lets hope this weather stays for a bit longer so that we can kick off Summer Tag 2011 with a blast!

By now your team captain will have registered your team and submitted the required registration fee, if not, please contact Justin Deegan immediately at tag@irishrugby.ie or email us and we will assist you in what ever way we can in regard to getting payment to the IRFU.

Anyone who is interested in playing but is not on a team, please email us and we will try to accomodate you as best as we can.

Captains:

Please email your team sheets to us ASAP if you have not done so already! (Please see Template attached at the end of this post)
For those captains who are new to tag; all team captains are required to come to the Tag Tent 20mins before your games starting time to fill in and sign your team sheet, this must be returned to the tent BEFORE your games begin.

Other things to note:

There are 2 pitches allocated to tag players for your training, those are:

Doorly Park (Opposite Argos)
Pitch beside the cemetry, opposite Sligo Race Course.

** Michael Condren of the Sligo County Council has informed us if any teams require other Sligo Borough Council training facilities, the facilities need to be booked and paid for in accordance with council’s conditions of pitch hire. Shorts will be on sale at the Tag Tent each week for €20 for any taggers who require them.
Tags will be provided on the night, you do not have to bring tags with you.
You must wear tag shorts for the Tag matches.
Taggers are not permitted to wear any jewellery during tag games!

Centenary match – Sligo RFC V’s Dublin University (Trinity) 1910 – 2010

Sligo RFC would like to invite all members, supporters, and friends to Hamilton Park, next tuesday evening (August 24th) to witness a unique event, when the senior team play host to Dublin University (Trinity College), to mark the centenary of the first fixture between the two clubs, played in 1910.

The teams will battle it out on the pitch to earn the right to lift the George Hamlet Trophy, named after Sligo RFC’s popular elder statesman, former Club president, and dedicated servant of the club for over 50 years, who will be in attendance at the match and post match reception in the clubhouse.

The Match kicks off at 6pm.

Summer 7′s Train & Play

First team star, Jordan Farington, is running a Summer 7′s Train & Play session at the club for 14 to 17 year olds on Friday evenings at 5.30pm.

Quality Coaching in a controlled and fun environment focusing on the core skills in 7′s rugby that cross over to the 15 aside game. 45 minutes of training followed by 45 minutes playing. Players don’t need to be part of a team – just turn up and join in!

Please note that there’s a €5 per session cost

Town v Country!

Next up on the adult Rugby calander is the annual St Stephens day game in which the town based players line out against their country counterparts. This is always a keenly contested affair, and with the Town team gaining the upper hand in last seasons enconter, the country lads are sure to be out for revenge. All players who are home for Christmas or are visiting the area for the holiday season are welcome. The match kicks off at 2.30 on the 26th.

Reunion night a huge success

Last Friday evening saw a unique event for Sligo RFC when the successful Connacht Junior Cup teams of 1999 and 1969 had a reunion night in the Glasshouse Hotel. Man of the Match in the 1999 final Ken O’Neill put in fantastic work to gather together ex players from the 4 corners of the country. On the night, Each player was presented with a photo of his successful squad and all showed that even as the years have passed they were still able to celebrate as well as they ever could.

Teenage disco

The Halloween non alcoholic teenage disco was a huge success with all patrons enjoying a great nights entertainment. The committee would like to thank all of the 25 stewards that attended on the night who ensured a safe and enjoyable night for everyone involved.

1969 & 1999 Connacht Cup Reunion

Sligo RFC are celebrating a 40 year reunion for the Connacht Junior Cup winning side of 1969 and a 10 year reunion of the Connacht Cup winning side of 1999. What promises to be an excellent social gathering of ex players along with their partners (and indeeed a few current ones also) takes place on Friday 13th in the Glasshouse, Sligo at 9pm. All are members past and present are more than welcome.

Scrumptious

Tickets are on sale from the usual sellers for Sligo RFC’s Halloween non alcoholic disco “Scrumptious” which will take place on the 30th of October at 9pm. Patrons are advised to purchase their tickets early as demand is high for this event and tickets will not be on sale at the door. All stewards are asked to report to chief steward Niall Dreaper at 8.30 on the evening of the event.
