  • I would like your permission to use this photo in a book which will, hopefully, be published next year.
The book is titled “Irish Rugby International Casualties of War”. Robert Burgess in the photo went on to play for Ireland and was killed in World War 1.

    • Hi Patrick – please feel free to use the image. We don’t know much about the original photograph other than the surnames of the players which where recorded on the back of the print. Please let me know if we can be of any further help. Regarding the book – it would be great if you could let us know when it’s available – we’d love to give it a plug here on this site. All the best!

  • It will be out next year. All being well. I will let you know more later in the year.

  • You say its a centenary match.
What is it the centenary of?

  • Apologies for the delay in getting back to you – I missed your response. We held a game recently to mark the centenary of the game documented in the original photo (from 1910 – which we discovered in the club house two years ago). The Sligo side of the day was called County Sligo – and Trinity College still play their rugby as Dublin University.
