Dunmore 5 :: Sligo RFC 31
Sligo under 14 kicked of their campaign this weekend with a strong performance against Dunmore of Galway. The first half saw the first try go over the line in the first 5 minutes from Darragh Byrne. Evan McGrath ran another try’ within 15 minutes in to the game. Sligo pack battled hard with strong performances from Ryan Bright and Ronan Redmond pushing the Dunmore team back into their own half. As pressure was piled on Dunmore were forced to kick to gain breathing space but the ball was only to land into the safe hand of Sligo’s captain Darren Harte who had an outstanding match. Daniel Ford and Diarmiud Mulligan pushed the Dunmore players on to the back foot with some fantastic ball work that lead to another try from Conan O’Donell. Sligo’s defence was put under pressure for the dying moments of the first half but good work from Jack Keegan, Ronan Redmond and Enda Clarke kept the Dunmore team from crossing the line.
Jack Tillion and James Hanson took a well deserved rest after half time to give way to Sean Hurley and Connor McGoldrick. The front row of Jason Greer, Conan O’Donnell and Dirmiud Hough were to strong in the scrums and with great backup from Jake Sexton and Sean Bourke. Dunmore again came under intense pressure from the Sligo team. Second half trys came from Diarmuid Mulligan and Darragh Byrne to be converted by the ever reliable boot of Evan McGrath. Fresh legs were introduced 15 minutes into the second half of the game where Michael McGrath, Ciaran Cassidy, Anthony McGuinn and Stephen Knowles joined the squad to continue to pile on the pressure on Dunmore.
In the last minutes of the game saw the opposition get a well deserved try which they failed to convert leaving the score at 31 to 5. Connor Heraghty, a new comer to the panel ran at the opposition after he received a fine pass from Stephen Knowles. The game was blown up leaving the score at 31 to 5 to Sligo. Overall the day concluded with a very solid performance from the Sligo lads and they are hoping to press on with a win against Westport next Sunday at home.
