Sligo U-13s face the biggest challenge of their rugby careers, to date, when they lock horns with Galwegians U-13s in the final of the Connacht U13 cup on Saturday. A 12 noon showdown at the Sportsgrounds in Galway sees the Sligo boys take on a much fancied Galwegians outfit for the coveted title of Connacht champions.
Sligo’s path to the final was a mixed bag. A big first round win away to an inexperienced Gort outfit saw them progress to an away semi-final against Castlebar. The Mayo men put up stern test but Sligo eventually ran out 17-5 winners to set up a home semi final against Corinthians. The Galway outfit came to Sligo as favourites but had not banked on the fighting spirit of the local outfit and following a classic cup battle, Sligo booked their place in the final with a 17-12 win.
Galwegians path to the final has included wins over Buccaneers, Ballinasloe and Ballina and will be hoping to complete their campaign with a win over the Sligo boys.
These two team contested the final of last seasons U12 connacht blitz and ended up sharing the spoils following a fiercely contested tied match. Sligo will be looking to go one step further and  bring home the silverware on Saturday evening.
