Six Former Sligo Stars in AIL Action In Limerick

It was a case of all roads leading to Limerick for six former Sligo RFC stars who all featured in AIL action there this weekend. Mark Butler, Sean Henry, and Cathal Sheridan all played for UL Bohemians in their 24-6 victory over local river Young Munster at Thomond Park. Two second half tries, and 14 points from the boot of Fergal Lawlor ensured a comfortable victory for the students which keeps them right in the hunt for AIL honours. Things were more difficult for Simon Gillespie who started at fullback for UCD, who were faced with a massive task away to Shannon in Coonagh. Despite kicking all of his side’s nine points Simon efforts were not enough to save his side from a comprehensive 36-9 defeat which saw Shannon move into second place in AIL Division One. Simon’s brother Paul Gillespie travelled to Bruff  with his Dublin University side, where they were facing an in-form home side who are amongst the early pacesetters in Division Two. In a tight encounter Bruff emerged victorious by a solitary point, 13-12, leaving Paul’s Trinity in midtable in the division. Karl Gilligan was the final Sligo man in action in Limerick, as his DLSP side produced a fine performance to defeat Thomond by 12-6 at Liam Fitzgerald Park. Sligo RFC would like to congratulate all six players on their achievements so far this year, and wish them all the best for the remainder of their respective seasons.
