The big story for Sligo RFC this week is the granting of planning permission for the new grounds and development at Cloverhill . For all involved this is the culmination of a very long process that started seven years ago. With the growth of our club and the huge increase in membership mainly at underage the existing facilities in Hamilton Park Strandhill are inadequate. The new development will the capacity for up to four pitches and a training area plus a state of the art clubhouse with full gym facilities.
This project has been driven by the development committee which is chaired by Des Butler. Des has put a huge amount of time and effort into this and his passion and enthusiasm has been vital for the progression of the scheme and a huge debt of gratitude is due to him for his efforts.
The planning which was granted has a number of conditions attached but chief Architect Colin Bell is confident that these are not a major problem. The next phase now will be to get the project moved on and to start construction as soon as possible.
