Rumour has it that a new member of the Senior 2nd’s team will be appearing on Fair City tonight (on RTE) and Friday night. I’m not saying who it is but his first name might begin with ‘T’ and end with ‘im’

All club members were deeply saddened to learn on Thursday last of the death of one of the club’s staunchest members, Ernie Cooke. Since he came to Sligo in the 1960′s, Ernie was deeply involved in all club activities, and until his illness was a regular at all games in Hamilton Park. His post match analyses were always informed and constructive, and were eagerly sought by his fellow alickadoos. Continue reading ‘Death Of Former Club President Ernie Cooke’

Following league games on five successive Sundays, Sligo’s 1st team have a break from action on Sunday next, so local rugby enthusiasts will have to be content with some televised action (or perhaps they might support some of the other teams in the club! – Ed.). Sligo’s next outing in the league is the North West derby against Ballina in Heffernan Park on Sunday week next, December 2nd.
Sligo’s 2nd team travel to Glenina on Sunday next to play Galwegians in the re-fixed Connacht Junior 2 league [kick-off 2.30 pm]. This game was postponed last week at Sligo’s request, as a number of the Sligo team had volunteered to act as stewards at the World Rally Championship. A bus will leave Sligo Garda Station at 11 am, and all squad members should contact Michael Storey, Finian O’Driscoll, Des Butler or Declan Lynch regarding their availability.
Event organiser, Joe Burgess was very busy over the week-end distributing draw tickets to various club personnel. As stated in last week’s notes, the draw is for a host of very valuable prizes and will take place at the Christmas party for club workers in the Glasshouse Hotel on Thursday December 20th. Sellers are urged to do their utmost to dispose of their allocation as soon as possible, and to return the proceeds to Joe at their earliest convenience.
Arrangements are now in place for the Christmas party for club workers, which will be held in the Glasshouse Hotel on Thursday December 20th. Tickets are now being distributed and fancy dress is optional on the evening. Many thanks to the organising committee of Billy Leahy [Chair.], Therese Cosgrove, Clare Storey, Niall Draper and Senior Vice-President, Conor Frazer, for all their work in organising the event.
The Club Workers Party is kindly supported this year by Anglo Irish Bank.

Sligo Grammar School came out on top in the local derby, Connacht Schools’ Junior League tie against Summerhill College, played at the Mall on Saturday morning last. Despite being played in a continuous downpour, both sides served up some very good rugby. The winners have been scoring notable victories all season, but the less experienced Summerhill boys put in a competitive performance, before finally being overcome by the very impressive home side.
