Tag Rugby

Personnel from the organisers of the tag rugby league,the Irish Tag Rugby Association, were in Sligo last week, and are delighted with the local response to the league. 15 teams have entered, so there is just one place remaining. Any group interested in filling this remaining slot are advised to contact the organisers’ website without delay. The league commences on Thursday, May 24th, and will run for 9 consecutive Thursdays. Tea, coffee, sandwiches, refreshments and a full bar service will be available each evening.

Presentation of U-13 Cup Winners' medals

The Connacht U-13 cup winners’ medals will be presented to the victorious Sligo panel at a special function in the Clubhouse on Saturday next, May 12th by the club President, Tom Gilligan. Social Secretary, Gerry O’Daly is organising a barbecue, and all parents and family members, as well as club members are invited. The barbecue will commence at 4 pm.

Alcohol-Free Disco

A teenage, alcohol-free disco will be held in the Clubhouse, Hamilton Park, on Friday, June 1st at 9 pm. The disco will cater for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year students in Post Primary Schools, so TY or Senior Cycle students should not present. This will be a strictly all ticket event. Tickets will be available from the usual sellers shortly.

Player Recruitment

Sligo RFC is busy at present recruiting players for all teams for next season. Newcomers to town, who previously played elsewhere are very welcome, as is anybody who wishes to take up the game. Pre-season training will start on July 1st.

Primary Schools Blitz

The annual blitz for primary schools who avail of YDO, Gavin Foley’s coaching will be held in Hamilton Park on Wednesday, May 9th, commencing at 9.30 am. Ten schools will participate and up to 450 players will be involved. As usual, the emphasis will be on involvement and enjoyment.

Sympathy

At a recent meeting of the club’s Executive Committee, votes of sympathy were passed to the club’s Hon Treasurer, Jimmy Staunton on the death of his uncle, and to Messaline McGarry, and the extended McGarry family, on the untimely death of Philip McGarry.

Tag Rugby

All arrangements are in place for the tag rugby league, organised by the Irish Tag Rugby Association, which commences on Thursday May 24th in Hamilton Park. The organisers are delighted with the response locally to the competition, and 16 teams will participate in the league. Sandwiches, tea, coffee and a full bar service will be available each evening in the Clubhouse. The league runs for nine consecutive weeks.

Club AGM on May 18th

The Annual General Meeting of the club will be held in The Glasshouse Hotel on Friday May 18th, commencing at 8 pm sharp.

Congratulations are extended from the President, the Committee, and the entire membership, to our Membership Hon. Secretary, Rory Raftery, and his wife, Sandra, on the birth of their daughter, Anna, at Sligo General Hospital on Wednesday [May 2nd].
