Sligo’s very impressive U-13 side scored a resounding 19-0 victory over Buccaneers in the Connacht Cup Semi Final at Hamilton park on Saturday last. The home side played some brilliant rugby, especially in the first half, and they led by 19-0 at the interval.
Buccaneers had no answer to Sligo’s excellent continuity play in that first half, and their defence was torn to shreds. The visitors showed a marked improvement in the second period, but they could not breach the home defence, and this half finished scoreless.
Sligo 10 :: Galwegians 10
Sligo and Galwegians must meet again in the Connacht U-18 Cup, after the teams played out a thrilling draw in last Sunday’s quarter final in Hamilton Park. This was a typical cup tie, played with tremendous commitment, but in a very sporting manner by both sides.
Although Sligo had to line out without Jason East [on Ireland Youths training duties], out-half, Keelan Cawley [unavailable], and U-16 players, Rory Kerins and Tadgh Power, their re-arranged side took the game to Galwegians in the first half, and they led by 10-0 at the interval. After an uncertain start, they dominated proceedings, with their captain, Cathal Sheridan, giving an inspirational performance at out-half.

Sligo’s U-14 side also faces a replay with Galwegians after the sides drew 10 all in the Connacht Cup quarter final at Hamilton Park on Saturday last.
The home team had slightly the better of matters in the first half, and they led by 5-3 at the break. However, a converted Galwegian try midway through the second half put them 10-5 ahead. This score seemed to rouse Sligo as they laid siege to the Galwegians’ line. With a minute remaining, centre Keith McGoldrick scored the vital try to level the scoring, and give his side the draw they so richly deserved.
